On Thursday, 17th October 2024, members of SHADE, a self-help group supporting adults with anxiety and depression, welcomed Mel Jones, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and Positive Psychology Ambassador from Thriving Communities CIC, to their meeting room at Dan-y-Graig Church in Risca. Mel delivered an energising Thrive Laughter Yoga session that left participants feeling uplifted, informed, and, most importantly, thoroughly amused.

 

The interactive session included engaging exercises and insightful lessons on the benefits of laughter. Members of SHADE embraced the experience wholeheartedly, summing up the afternoon with glowing feedback:

  • “Very joyous and uplifting.”
  • “A fantastic afternoon and I definitely feel more positive after!”

 

 

What is Laughter Yoga?

 

Laughter Yoga is a unique practice combining intentional laughter exercises with yogic breathing. This fun and dynamic approach is scientifically proven to enhance mental and physical well-being by releasing “DOSE” – Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins, the body’s natural “happy hormones.” Beyond mood elevation, it energises, relaxes, and fosters creativity, motivation, and resilience.

 

 

Why Laughter Yoga Matters

 

Incorporating Positive Psychology, the science of happiness, Laughter Yoga promotes positive thinking and action. It is also a fantastic tool for team building, encouraging collaboration, and strengthening relationships. After all, people who laugh together, thrive together!

 

 

About SHADE

SHADE is a welcoming, user-led group in Risca offering events like meditations, meals, and social gatherings. They meet every Tuesday from 7 pm to 9 pm and Thursday from 1 pm to 3 pm.
